Houston’s Most Prestigious Marketing Award Opens Nominations

2010 Marketer of the Year Event will be March 7, 2011

HOUSTON TX – November 9, 2010 - Nominations opened this week for The American Marketing Association’s fifth annual Marketer of the Year awards, set for March 7, 2011 at the Alley Theatre.  AMA Houston’s Marketer of the Year program recognizes exceptional overall marketing by Houston-area companies, organizations and institutions in 40 categories.  Nominations come from both AMA Houston members and non-members in marketing, business, the media, education and industry and nominators have the option to submit their own organization. The deadline for nominations is November 19, 2010.  No submission fee is required.

“The award has made a remarkable difference in how we’re perceived and how we think about ourselves. It’s helped us transition from a local “etailer” to the largest online marketer in Houston, with a reputation for a fun innovative environment. This matters when we’re talking to prospective employees, partners, and customers.” – 2009 Marketer of the Year Daniel Cotlar, Chief Marketing Officer, Blinds.com.

Forty Best of Category winners for Marketer of the Year will be selected from nominations received by a vote of chapter members combined with scoring by a panel of local marketing experts.  During the evening program AMA Houston will also announce the 2010 overall Marketer of the Year from the Best of Category winners. The company receiving this top honor will be selected by a panel of judges outside of Houston who are leaders in marketing in their respective fields.  The company designated as the 2010 winner will receive access to the Marketer of the Year winner’s seal, be offered speaking opportunities at future AMA events and potential media interview opportunities.

This year’s Marketer of the Year keynote will be Matt Biespiel, senior director, Global Brand Development, McDonald’s Corporation, who will speak on How McDonald’s Builds and Leverages its Brand. Biespiel is McDonald’s global lead on brand strategy, development and standards, elevating the global advertising campaign: “I’m lovin’ it.” He also leads package design in the 118 countries where McDonald’s serves its nearly 60 million daily customers.

The 2009 Marketer of the Year, Blinds.com, will be on hand to announce this year’s winner.  Prior Marketer of the Year winners include Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (2008), the Houston Zoo (2007), Weatherford International (2006) and the Houston Symphony (2005).  A link to the nomination form and information on sponsoring Marketer of the Year and other details are available at www.amahouston.org.
