AMA Houston Announces Marketer of the Year Award Best of Category Winners

2011 Marketer of the Year Event will take place March 12, 2012

HOUSTON TX – February 07, 2012 - The Houston Chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA Houston) is pleased to announce the 34 organizations selected as Best of Category Winners for the 2011 Marketer of the Year (MOTY) Award. The Best of Category Winners were selected from over 145 nominated companies, organizations and institutions. These category winners will be honored at the March 12 awards ceremony at the Alley Theatre. One category winner will be announced at the event as the 2011 Marketer of the Year.

Recognizing the importance of marketing in driving the economy, the Marketer of the Year Award is AMA’s annual program that honors exceptional marketing efforts by Houston-area companies, organizations and institutions.  Marking the sixth year for this awards event, the category winners are determined by a vote of chapter members combined with scoring by a panel of local marketing experts. A full list of category winners is below.

AMA Houston was named AMA’s 2009-2010 Chapter of the Year, winning this top award for the fifth time in the last seven years from among AMA’s 75 national chapters. The chapter was named first runner up for 2010-2011.

This year’s Marketer of the Year keynote speaker is Jim Compton, United Airlines Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer, who was formerly the executive vice president and CMO for Continental Airlines prior to the merger. Compton is responsible for overseeing United’s domestic and international sales, corporate development and alliances, marketing, reservations, network pricing and revenue management, scheduling and distribution. He played a major role in the 2010 merger of United and Continental, chairing the committee charged with planning the consolidation of all systems, policies and programs. Compton will speak on the marketing challenges and strategies of the combined airline, now the world’s largest airline.

The 2010 Marketer of the Year, the University of Houston Athletic Department (University of Houston Cougars), will be on hand to announce this year’s winner. Prior Marketer of the Year winners include: Blinds.com (2009), Kelsey-Seybold Clinic (2008), the Houston Zoo (2007), Weatherford International (2006) and the Houston Symphony (2005).
